Seafolly’s ERP Transformation with Apparel²¹ – Sid Sharma’s Journey
Updated: 2 days ago
Seafolly, Australia’s iconic swimwear brand has long been synonymous with innovation and excellence. With over 14 years of experience at Seafolly, Sid Sharma, now leading IT and Business Improvement, has played a pivotal role in optimising operations, enhancing productivity, and driving transformative change within the business. Through a strong partnership with Apparel²¹, Seafolly has harnessed the full potential of its ERP system to adapt and thrive in the ever-evolving fashion retail landscape.
The Beginning of the Journey
Sid Sharma joined Seafolly in a casual role intended to last just three days receiving. With a background in engineering and a keen interest in supply chain and ERP systems, Sid quickly identified inefficiencies in the stock-receiving process.
“The containers were sitting on the dock, and it would take three days to receive the stock. I questioned why the system couldn’t fast track the process,” Sid recalls.
Exploring the Apparel21 ERP system, Sid uncovered a feature to copy carton data, enabling him to process a shipment of 589 cartons in hours instead of days. “The warehouse manager came back and said I must have made a mistake—it’s impossible to do it that fast,” he laughs.
This moment was a wake-up call for Sid and the Seafolly Team, revealing the untapped potential of their ERP system.

Transforming Warehouse Operations
Recognizing his knack for optimization, Seafolly offered Sid a permanent role. Over the next 14 years, Sid and his team made significant improvements to warehouse operations. By educating staff and aligning processes with Apparel21's capabilities, Seafolly achieved remarkable results.
“We went from picking and packing 10,000–12,000 units per day to doubling that to over 21,000 units per day,” Sid notes. This massive leap in productivity directly resulted from better system utilisation and process refinement.
The collaboration between Seafolly and Apparel21 further evolved when the brand transitioned to a 3PL (third-party logistics) model. “The project was planned for 12 months, but we delivered it in under six, achieving a fully automated system with interface and file exchange,” says Sid. “The implementation, supported by Apparel21, was one of the smoothest transitions Seafolly had ever experienced,” Sid shared.
A Consultative Partnership
What sets Seafolly apart is its collaborative approach to problem-solving with Apparel21.

Sid explains, “We don’t go to Apparel21 with solutions. We share our challenges and let them bring their expertise to find the most effective way forward. 9.5 times out of 10, we land on a good solution.”
This partnership has helped Seafolly optimise end-to-end processes. Apparel21’s ERP system has become an integral part of Seafolly’s operations, from automating invoice emails to combining consignments for better shipping efficiency. “It’s not just a process module—it’s an ecosystem that takes care of everything, from stock movements to financials, inventory, and beyond,” Sid emphasises.
Leveraging Apparel²¹ Connect
In recent years, Seafolly has embraced Apparel21 Connect, a platform designed to simplify integrations across online stores, marketplaces, and CRM systems. By reducing reliance on middleware layers and enabling real-time data exchange, Apparel21 Connect has unlocked significant growth opportunities for Seafolly.
“A huge growth opportunity allows us to sell stock in multiple places,” says Sid.
“Real-time inventory updates mean less customer confusion around stock availability, and we’ve streamlined our CRM functionality to get a complete view of the customer journey.”
This innovation has been instrumental in supporting Seafolly’s rewards program and enhancing customer loyalty. “We can now see what customers purchase, where, and when—which is critical for our loyalty platform,” Sid adds.

The People Side of ERP
While technology plays a central role, Sid highlights the importance of addressing the human element in ERP adoption. “Sometimes it’s the people side of things that’s the hardest part to change,” he admits. By fostering a culture of collaboration and curiosity, Sid and his team have encouraged staff to embrace system capabilities.
“We’ve rebranded our department as the ‘Business Systems Team.’ Any problem, not just IT related, comes to us. It’s about finding the best solution, not just the quickest fix,” Sid explains. This mindset shift has allowed Seafolly to build trust, reduce resistance to change, and unlock measurable benefits across operations.
Results That Speak Volumes
Through its partnership with Apparel21, Seafolly has achieved significant milestones:
Doubling warehouse productivity by aligning processes with ERP capabilities.
Seamless integration with 3PL partners, delivering automated workflows and faster transitions.
Enhanced omnichannel operations, enabling real-time data exchange and inventory updates.
Improved customer experiences, driven by CRM insights and loyalty program integration.
“It shows if you ask the right questions, design it properly, and invest time in planning, you end up reducing the overall overhead—and the next step is only improvement after that,” Sid reflects.
Looking Ahead

As Seafolly continues to expand its global presence, Sid and his team remain committed to leveraging Apparel21 ’s capabilities. The future looks bright with plans to roll out Apparel21 Connect across all online stores and marketplaces.
“It’s about building collaboration between how the business works and how the ERP should adapt to it. Together with Apparel21, we’re creating a system that also solves today’s challenges and prepares us for tomorrow’s opportunities,” Sid concludes.
Seafolly’s success story is a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and a well-implemented ERP system. With Apparel21 as a trusted partner, they continue to set new benchmarks for efficiency and excellence in the fashion retail industry.
